Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy

Posted on: September 25th, 2012

Team Stellar* recently drove out to Eastern Creek to spend the day getting to know 30 models of Mercedes-Benz cars and pushing them to their limits around the race track – all in the name of research of course! The Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy takes place around Australia at various dates throughout the year, with the half day event specifically designed to provide motorists with the skills and experiences required to help them drive safely and confidently in the modern world.

After fuelling up on a delicious buffet lunch, we were greeted by Mercedes-Benz Chief Driving Instructor Peter Hackett and 16 buff men in black who were the instructors for the afternoon. After an overview of what to expect, and a reminder of the necessity for us all to be there – no one had any sort of training since they got their license at age 16 – Stellar* Concepts was teamed up with instructor James Brock, professional driver and son of motor racing legend Peter Brock.

We drove everything from an E-Class Sedan to a smart fortwo to a truck, in order to experience the very latest in Mercedes-Benz developed technology, including DISTRONIC PLUS, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist. ABS and BAS came into play as we came to a sudden stop from 100km/hour, while ESP showed off some of the truly remarkable capabilities of the range. An SLK-Class Roadster was also kitted out with specially imported neon ‘slick tyres’ which effectively allowed us to slip slide into donuts without the danger of needing high speeds.

Talk about the perfect blend of adrenaline and education!
