Stellar* Concepts has had a busy week. It kicked off with Oktoberfest last Wednesday, when Sydneysiders released their inner Bavarian at a launch event at Bavarian Bier Café York Street. A mix of media guests and local regulars enjoyed lederhosen-wearing, pretzel-loving, stein-swigging, yodeling fun at the café getting everyone into the festival spirit. The tapping of the first Oktoberfest keg also took place, with a long term Bavarian Bier Café regular tasked with the honourable role of releasing the 30L of bier for guests to enjoy.
The festivities continued on Thursday with a long day at Löwenbräu Keller, starting at dawn with the Channel Seven Sunrise team broadcasting the weather live, and ending in the evening with Triple M’s Merrick attempting a Guinness World Record live on air – to carry at least 22 steins full of beer across a 40 metre length. He stumbled just a few feet out of the required 40 meters with the 22 steins, weighing a total of 49 kilos crashing to the ground and drenching him in liquid gold. . The current record still stands at 21 steins by Oliver Struempfel from Germany.
With the official Oktoberfest launch taking place on Saturday at Löwenbräu Keller in line with the midday launch in Munich, we returned with bloggers to introduce them to hearty Munich-style fare accompanied by the imported Oktoberfestbier. “O’stapt is” was yelled as we witnessed another keg tapped while lads in lederhosen (and certain Stellar* team ladies in dirndls) held their steins high to sing along with the Oom Pah band.
Heading down to Melbourne, the Stellar* team spent this weekend with perennially popular hosts of Grand Designs UK and Grand Designs Australia, Kevin McCloud and Peter Maddison, who proved to be crowd favourites at the Grand Designs Live home show which opened in Melbourne last Friday.
Kicking off the trail-blazing publicity tour last Wednesday night with an appearance on The Project, Kevin and Peter then entertained a small group of journalists at George Colombaris’ Maha restaurant later that evening.
Last Thursday was jam-packed with television and radio interviews, including 3AW, ABC radio (Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra) and TV News (national), Triple R and more. Needless to say it was no small miracle that Kevin completed all his scheduled interviews on time given the hoards of adoring fans requesting interviews and pictures with their DIY pin-up. After catching up with Chrissy and Jane on Mix 101.1 and calling into the Triple M Grill Team in Brisbane, Kevin arrived just in time to officially open the show with Peter on Friday morning. Record crowds arrived in droves at ‘Jeff’s shed’ to see more than 200 world-class exhibitors and seminars by celebrity experts.
What a week!
