YouTube statistics 2011

Posted on: March 30th, 2011

One thing that the explosion of social media has given us is a remarkable array of mind-bending statistics, such as…

“More content is uploaded to YouTube in a 60 day period than the 3 major US TV networks created in 60 years” or what about “If Facebook were a country it would be the 3rd largest country in the world.”

What I’ve found in my time scouring the internet for social media stats is that current YouTube stats are not that easy to find.  So earlier this month while at ad:tech, I busily jotted down stats that were mentioned.  Here they are, I hope you find these useful:

  • YouTube has 6.7 million monthly Australian visitors
  • 800,000 Aussies land on the home page every day
  • 1 billion videos are watched per month in Australia
  • Users are split relatively evenly between males and females
  • The ‘how to’ video category is the fastest growing vertical
  • As of February 2011, YouTube had 490 million unique users worldwide per month
  • Viewers generate 92 billion page views per month, globally
  • 2.9 billion hours are spend on the site per month, globally
  • 2 billion videos are watched daily, globally
  • The average user spends between 15 – 25 minutes on the site per day
  • YouTube is the most tweeted brand on Twitter
  • There is more than 400 tweets per minute with a YouTube link included
  • 150 years of YouTube video content is watched on Facebook every single day

What’s your favourite social media stat?
